Peter D. Keisler
Peter D. Keisler is a partner with Sidley Austin in Washington, D.C.
Keisler, the former Acting Attorney General of the United States, is a well-respected attorney who possesses extensive trial and appellate litigation experience in a broad range of issues. He has argued before the Supreme Court and numerous federal courts of appeal.
Keisler returned to Sidley Austin LLP after serving for several years at the U.S. Department of Justice. He is one of the global coordinators of Sidley’s Appellate Practice and a member of the firm’s Executive Committee.
Prior to rejoining Sidley, Keisler served as the Acting Attorney General of the United States. In that capacity, Keisler served as the chief law enforcement officer of the country and directed the work of the Department of Justice, including its investigative agencies and litigating divisions. Keisler had joined the Department of Justice in 2002 as the Principal Deputy Associate Attorney General and spent most of his more than five-year tenure as the Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Division.
