ACUS Chair Paul Verkuil Steps Down at End of Term

Former Law Dean Revived Agency in 2010

Washington, D.C., October 1, 2015 – Administrative Conference of the United States Chairman Paul Verkuil, whose visionary leadership led to the re-launching of the agency, is stepping down upon the completion of his five-year term.

Since its revival in 2010 after a 15 year absence due to a lapse in funding, ACUS has issued 32 recommendations, two statements, and numerous reports for agencies.

ACUS Vice Chair Dr. Steven Croley will assume the responsibilities of Chair until a successor is confirmed.

"Paul has shown great leadership and accomplished so much these past several years," said Croley. "I look forward to assisting this distinguished bipartisan body continue its important work in any way I can," he added.

Dr. Croley currently serves as General Counsel at the Department of Energy. Before Energy, Croley spent three years in the Office of White House Counsel, including two years as Deputy White House Counsel. He was Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan from 2006-2010. Croley began his teaching career at the University of Michigan Law School in 1993.

The next Plenary Session, during which members debate and vote on recommendations, is slated for December 3-4, 2015.
